India needs urgent Electoral
reforms with a right to recall process of Non-performing and incompetent
representatives/MLAs/MPs, after assessing them on yearly basis. Delhi and Bihar
state elections show that a few corrupt and criminal candidates are elected as
MLAs for the next 5 years with all perks & privileges making a mockery of
democracy. They can continue their corrupt ways using their clout and
syndication for the next 5 years unchecked and without any accountability
making common men and voters’ mere spectators. Delivery of good governance and
accountability must be made strict parameters of the assessment.
Those who fail the qualifying
assessment for a second consecutive year should be impeached & by voters with
the right to recall process. Voting must be made compulsory offering online
facilities with the help of webcams for identification. All sections of the
society should be brought to the mainstream including the dissident organizations
that boycott elections now. Those who get at least a certain percentage of
polled votes only should be elected. The same percentage can be applied as parameter
for the impeachment & recall process also.
India is the largest democracy in
the world and its people deserve a better governance system. In certain
European democracies such a system exists where voters can recall their elected
representative before their full tenure.
